Adam's Rant on MTA Subway Performers

Adam's Rant on MTA Subway Performers

This video is going to resonate STRONGLY with everyone who lives in NYC and frequents the lovely MTA system.

I rant about three core groups we often see:

  1. Artists/Musicians asking for donations
  2. Drugs addicts posing as artists/musicians who DEMAND your donations
  3. The group of young folk who shout "What time is it?!" "It's showtime!" and then proceed to do an array of incredible acrobatic dancing all around you to the tunes of 1980s punk hip-hop

**Please note that there is language in this video, but it's harmless. We should all know by now that I have a smart ass potty mouth. This is a fun deep-dive into how we all really feel about these three groups**
Let's talk about it, okay? :-)

Adam's Spring Break in Chicago 2015

Adam's Spring Break in Chicago 2015

Due to some recent tragic events that occurred in my Brooklyn apartment, I found myself on a plane headed to the windy city of Chicago for respite. Two of my very best friends, Drew and Natasa, were kind enough to host me while I healed.

This video has some fun music montages, sprinkled with Easter eggs, gorgeous scenery and beautiful people. ;-)

It has been awhile since I released a video of this length, so please know that intricate care went into every image you see. This is a rollercoaster of EMOTION, much how I felt during my healing process, and I wanted to share it with you all.

Thank you for watching! Keep loving.

Adam's ART Manifesto 2: "The Narcissist"

ADAM'S ART MANIFESTO 2: "THE NARCISSIST"

**RATED PG-13 FOR ADULT LANGUAGE**

I was so pleased with the wide range of reactions I received from "Adam's ART Manifesto: A Look Back" that I decided to come back and revisit this idea of social media, selfie culture...and most importantly...narcissism.

I was at a house party back in November where somebody as large as a house told me at first glance, "You are a narcissist." Immediately, I took offense. After reviewing the actual definition of the word several times, I had to give it to this person. They might be correct. You know how they knew? Because of their own lack of self-esteem. It's two polar opposites coming together and identifying something in the other that they lack in themselves.

I've found that through exploring myself (by going very deep into the core of who I am as a person), there is a part of me that is very narcissistic. This plays directly into the savior complex I've had my whole life that I can "save someone" or help where my help is not actually needed.

Now please don't confuse my narcissism with a lack of empathy. If anything, I have too much empathy. I am not a sociopath. Let's be honest though...actors, performers, musicians, creative types...we're all a bit narcissistic when you look at our core. Does this have to be negative? The answer is NO.

This Manifesto is about poking fun at myself...once again. Everything you see is a performance...an act...and it's meant to help you self-reflect based on how you perceive the information both visually and emotionally.

I went into a complete hibernation to create this piece of work. I had to. When one takes a moment to shut the outside world out and just focus internally (and I mean REALLY focus)...there are things that rise to the surface that we never expected to find. I found those elements in my life while creating this video.

So here's an UNCENSORED look into "How to be a Social Media Whore." And just remember, we're all a bit narcissistic. Aren't we? ;-)

ONE DAY: A Modern Dance Dream

ONE DAY: A MODERN DANCE DREAM

Depicted as a modern "dance dream", this story without dialogue tells its plot through music and visuals. Originally thought out as a "Fifty Shades of Grey" homage - this spun into its own piece of work and now stands on its own.

Imagine having to live out the same dream or story in your head on repeat. Perhaps it's a part of you that you're afraid of or don't access often. One day, this part of you takes over and makes you believe this dream is a reality...only to discover how fooled we are in the end.

It's okay to over-think this video. I don't give clear direction on where this is headed because I want this to serve as a stimulant for your mind to take you where you're most free and uninhibited.

Please "like" and share. Thank you so much for watching!

ADAM'S "ART" MANIFESTO: A LOOK BACK

Adam's "ART" Manifesto: A Look Back

We should all have an internal and personal declaration to ourselves.

This personal "ART" Manifesto is instead tailored for a public eye. I'm the creative type, and we like to share alllllllll of our emotions and thoughts...on about every topic you can imagine. It's not that I want to push a belief on to you. It's that I use the honesty and candidness of myself to hopefully inspire you to know and like your true self as well. Or don't like that person inside of you. It's all your choice. It's up to you, really.

I was greatly inspired in a very specific way throughout the last couple months, and I used myself as the way to express it. I channeled everything through social media and used filters such as pop culture, music, dance, painting, selfie culture, visual references, pure honest talks to the audience (yourselves), and many more avenues.

It doesn't matter if you understand what you see in this video because that isn't the purpose of why I'm doing it. You need to draw your own conclusions and find what it can mean for you. Notice that I use the phrase, "what it CAN mean for you".

Even the honest talks to the audience are part of the show. From start to finish, you are going to be somewhere halfway between a music video, a selfie culture-inspired political speech, a bathhouse, a church and reality.

**YOU MUST TAKE NOTE THAT THIS VIDEO IS 15 MINUTES LONG. IT MOVES AT RAPID FIRE THOUGH, AND IS COMPRISED OF MONTAGE, MONOLOGUE, SPECTATOR DIALOGUE, AND FUN ANNOTATIONS**

I'm now inspired in brand new ways and finding different areas to channel. Everything feels different, and yet it can almost feel exactly the same. What I do know is that this last chapter has been a roller coaster of a ride, and it's certainly reflected in the mood and visual nature of what you're going to see. I had to capture it in the gayest, most honest and sexual way with tenderness and true devout love. All encapsulated here.

Please - if there's ONE KEY TAKEAWAY I can provide for you as guidance while you watch this video:

--DO NOT OVER-THINK THIS--

Have fun. Laugh. Make fun of me or feel inspired. Turn it off it it becomes too much. Those are just guidelines. The RULE here is to just have fun. So go do that for me and let me know what you think, loves.

Peace,
Adam xoxo

Adam's Late Night Snack Run

Adam's Late Night Snack Run

This is what can happen when you have insomnia! You can potentially journey to the local gas station in the middle of the night to pick up KETCHUP-flavored potato chips.

You would also want the tunes of Lady Gaga to accompany you on this journey into the night.

I was sure to take her with me in this time-lapsed video format of the journey. Enjoy! -Adam xoxo

OUT OF DARKNESS: Fake Movie Trailer

OUT OF DARKNESS: Fake Movie Trailer

I did it all over again. I still had my be-dazzler, so I wrecked havoc on some old video footage and repurposed them HERE with this very fake "movie trailer" for OUT OF DARKNESS.

This is what happens when you have insomnia and can't sleep in the middle of the night.

Bewitching.

Happy Martin Luther King Day! LET'S MAKE LOVE!

HAPPY MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY!

LET'S MAKE LOVE

I hope that you've all celebrated in the true spirit of what today signifies.

And for God's sake - take. the. goddamn. message. I hear many say each year how inspired they are by this special day to carry on the message of love over hate...and then that vigor dissipates. Please don't let it escape you. Keep on it and will find incredible joy in the message that MLK lived and preached every day.

As I mention in this video - everyone is in pain. We need to be comrades and lift each other up in harmony.

I'm going to jump off the soap box now haha! But truly - I mean it. I would make love to all of you (sans my family!)...but you know the act I'm talking about. Make love to each other and soak it all up.

Then I'll always let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours.

MLK! Peace! Love! - Adam

Words to Live By: ADVICE FOR 2015

LOVE & FORGIVENESS

words to live by:

WORDS TO LIVE BY:
I do NOT forgive people because I’m weak. I forgive them because I am strong enough to understand that people make mistakes.

I beg for all of you to implement this belief into your life. Everyone is human and has faults. People fall down - but if they choose to get up stronger than before, you reap the benefits of believing in love and change.

Some will disappoint you and never change. But I promise you that a portion of those people will surprise you. They will empower you. Lead with LOVE; and you’re never wrong. Just stay honest.

Love you all! HAPPY SATURDAY!

Do they miss me in Chicago?

Do they miss me in Chicago? - Daisy Buchanan - "The Great Gatsby"

Something about the way Carey Mulligan asks that question in the Baz Luhrmann film adaptation of "The Great Gatsby" is striking. I just happened to be in Chicago and love Fitzgerald at the same time, so add those components together and throw in the desire to sound artsy and wa-bam! Blog post title is found. The formula works, trust me.

This blog post isn't actually about Chicago. It's not even about me. (Though I throw my love to you Chicago folks!) I wanted to share one of the most compelling pieces of art I've seen in awhile. This is Sia's new music video for "Elastic Heart" featuring Shia LaBeouf and the amazingly haunting Maddie Ziegler. (Aren't we all still recovering from "Chandelier"?)

So there are many opinions about this video, and many strong ones on top of those. Everyone is entitled to their own interpretation of what this video is saying or where it fits into Sia's storytelling as a songwriter. What brought me in is the use of movement and how it's connected to the song. Each move is dripping with emotion. This set me off into "ugly crying" mode. I laugh about it now but at the time it felt so appropriate haha. If it touches you in that way, you'll have yours as well.

Such a beautiful video. Check it out and let me know what you think. Let's talk about it...

AND YOU ALL THOUGHT I WOULD POST SOMETHING ABOUT LADY GAGA. Well, I fooled you there. ;-)

RELIEVED to be in a place where I feel loved & creative again: CHICAGO

Chicago Brings Me Relief: It Truly Does (Sorry, NYC)

So words cannot describe how wonderful I have felt since the plane touched down in Iowa last week. I felt like I was finally among a land of people that just have a different demeanor than those in NYC.

In NYC (and don't tell me I'm generalizing...for the most part, IF YOU LIVE IN NYC, you know this is true to the bone), the general population of people would step on you to get ahead. They'd break your heart like no other, won't assume responsibility for actions and just have a toxic vibe about them.

What's most sad about this...the ones who do it truly do NOT know they're doing it. It's ingrained in them so it's intuitive and part of their world. Only as an outsider can one truly observe the difference between northeast folk and middle America/West Cost/South. It's the Northeast vs. the rest of the country because the similarities are so vast.

I'm grateful to be back around people who want nothing from me but my friendship and love. They won't turn their back or establish fleeting friendships and then feel like they don't need to explain a word when they've (huge quotes here) "destroyed" a person. I've seen it happen to many people many times, and I've experienced it myself.

I've asked myself the question: how can people who seem so loving and genuine actually have an evil in them that they are completely unaware of?

That's an answer I'll never receive because those who possess that evil don't know they have it. INSTEAD - I've decided to focus and relish the love and joy received here in the land of people who love and care. It's who we choose to surround ourselves with, and I can't be more proud to be from the MidWest.

Not only do guys cream their pants when they find out I'm from the MidWest, but they also see a glimmer of hope to possibly cash in on that fetish and take advantage. Well well well, Northeastern heart breakers - THINK AGAIN. While we may be considered all-American; we do not stand by and let bad things happen.

Overall, RELIEF and EMPOWERMENT has come back to me when it was taken away from me in NYC, and I feel more creative than ever. I'm allowed to express myself the way I feel I want to - and there's not ONE thing any of you can do about it but accept it and interpret it in the way that you want to. Because in the end we can't control each other's interpretations of art - we can only make of it what we feel instinctively.

Some VERY exciting projects are coming down the line. One of these include a silly music video to balance out this rather serious and direct blog post. Be sure to tune in shortly (should come in the next couple days) and let us (yes, US) know what you think. Feels great to be in a supportive community of artists who aren't continually trying to "be something".

I can tell you - I WAS "that something" and I walked away from it because I didn't want to do it on anyone's terms but my own. Now I have a fulfilling career that I love more than anything, and who would've known? Art is mine now because I take it back!

I urge ALL of you to please take back what is rightfully yours and that perhaps you've lost along your way. Search deep down in your soul and identify what it is that might be missing and then use yourself to grow it back or seek it out tenaciously. If I can do it - you can do it - and we all can.

Make mistakes along the way and don't be afraid to fall. Falling is okay. It's getting back up, dusting off the dirt and trying again that matters most. If anything - remember that I believe in you.

Peace + Love,
Adam
