OPEN LETTER: VICTIM SHAMING + PTSD by Adam Cerny

OPEN LETTER: Victim Shaming + PTSD

by Adam Cerny

PTSD: A disorder characterized by failure to recover after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event.

VICTIM SHAMING: Victim blaming occurs when the victim of a crime or any wrongful act is held entirely or partially responsible for the harm that befell them. The study of victimology seeks to mitigate the perception of victims as responsible.

Confession - I suffer from PTSD. Confession - 7.8% of Americans will experience PTSD at some point in their life. Even scarier - almost 31% of Vietnam veterans experience PTSD. (This goes out to all you free-loving hippies who protested the Vietnam veterans when they arrived back in the states) Shame on you. Truly - shame. on. you.

I suffer from PTSD. Every day. It's a lifelong struggle and it will never "go away". I wish I could shove this message down the throats of everyone who doesn't understand. There is an inability to withdraw from feeling the events of "said trauma". Every time their button or "trigger" is pushed, that person is pushed back in the trauma. They experience it all over again as if it were happening. This is a step beyond depression. Far beyond.

I hope you watch this video and...I hope you fu***ng HEAR ME. HEAR. ME. Listen. Absorb. Don't protest. Absorb the information.

For those of you who are guilty of VICTIM SHAMING - I only pray that you get out of the way of PTSD victims. They are trying their hardest to reach a recovery or stasis. Get out of their way and please stop creating such barriers.

Thank you for watching. From the bottom of my heart - I THANK YOU. Please spread love, awareness, a smile, and some empathy to the world around you. Make it better.

Peace + Love! ☮️💝

-ADAM xoxo
